Many toxins accumulate and persist in the body for decades, degrading slowly or not at all, leading to accumulation of other toxins or susceptibility to infections due to impaired detoxification, weakened immunity, and increased oxidative stress.

Total Tox Burden is a quick and easy test that gives you a complete picture of your levels of heavy metals, mycotoxins and environmental toxins. This test measures the levels of 20 heavy metals, 31 mycotoxins and 39 environmental toxins in the body. Knowing your total toxic load is the first step to detoxifying and feeling better.

Toxic exposure is a reality in our daily lives, but toxic overload can be stressful and manifest in many different ways. Toxins can lead to increased oxidative stress and increase the burden on the body's detoxification pathways, particularly on the liver. When the liver cannot adequately eliminate toxins or the by-products of an infection, these toxins can clog normal detox pathways and lead to a range of symptoms of chronic inflammation. If you experience numerous chronic symptoms and are unable to lose weight despite diet and exercise, you may be carrying a high toxic load.

Is this test right for me?

If you're trying to diet and exercise but still can't reach your goals, toxins may be getting in the way. This test trio provides reliable information about the total toxic load.

How accurate is this test?

The Total Tox Burden panel uses the most advanced method to measure 89 different markers to estimate toxic burden in one simple urine sample.

How should I prepare for this test?

Fasting is not required for testing for heavy metals, environmental toxins, and mycotoxins. However, fasting for 12 hours can increase the amount of toxins excreted in the urine, so check with your provider about whether they recommend fasting for 12 hours before the test. Some providers may prefer that you administer a challenge that requires taking a "provoking agent" (such as NAC, glutathione, DMSA, or EDTA) before testing to stimulate the release of body metal stores so that the metals are "mobilized" (move through the body) and excreted with urine.

Discuss with your provider ordering the service whether he recommends a provocative test, and what provoking agent, dose, provocation and collection time he recommends for you. Note that the results of an unprovoked test cannot predict the results of a provoked test, because the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (excretion) of heavy metals in the urine vary greatly from person to person and depend on a number of physical, dietary, and environmental factors. In general, most providers prescribe unprovoked testing.

Avoid foods high in iodine (seafood, dairy products, seaweed) and selenium (Brazil nuts) because they have a strong affinity for heavy metals (acting as "heavy metal magnets"). Consuming these products prior to a heavy metal test may lead to falsely lower results.
