The plant is widely used in oriental medicine. It contains valuable substances with pronounced antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumor effects. Chinese doctors use the plant to treat pneumonia. Houttuynia extract is a rich source of flavonoids: quercetin, rutin, quercitrin and hyperoside. Flavonoids have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Quercitrin protects the skin from the effects of free radicals. The plant has excellent regenerative properties.
