This is a perennial herb with a hairy, squared stem. The oppositely arranged leaves have oval to lance-shaped blades with toothed edges. The leaves are dark green or purple in color. Clusters of tiny white or pink-tinged flowers occur in the leaf axils. It is native to North America, where it is widespread in eastern Canada and the eastern United States.

Bugleweed has a pronounced thyrostatic effect due to the inhibition of iodine transport and the release of preformed thyroid hormones, therefore, the plant is used for hyperthyroidism It is also recommended to use it for violations of the heart rhythm, insomnia, stressful conditions.
